Well, here we are. Grab a seat, catch your breath, and let's take a moment to appreciate what just happened.

28 days have passed in the blink of an eye and team Sensible Object are currently feeling very much like the walking dead. But we’re happy little zombies, because you and over 3,500 other lovely people like you have helped us reach the staggering heights of $400,000! Well, we’re a couple of thousand short, but we firmly believe in rounding up when it goes in your favour.

When we set out on the quest to expand the world of Beasts of Balance, and to bring new players into the fold, we had no idea what the response would be like. We’re a weird little game you see, and as much as we like being weird, its also quite scary. But then you came along and showed us that there are players out there who understand what we’re trying to do, who seek out new types of game, who value weirdness. We love you, you bunch of weirdos.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

1. Kickstarter should have already tried to take payment for your pledge level, so please check your Kickstarter accounts to make sure your payment preferences are up to date.

2. Around the 18th August we will send out our pledge manager surveys via a service called Backerkit. These surveys will be sent to the email address you have registered with Kickstarter, so please make sure it's current!

In this survey you will: Tell us what rewards you pledged for. Select extras if you want them, like further add-ons and copies of the game. Add in your shipping address (which can be changed later). And tell us whether you’d like to receive everything in one shipment in March 2018, or would rather receive the game (if you’ve backed it) in September 2017 and the add-ons and stretch goals in March 2018. Shipping costs will be automatically generated by the survey as you type in your details. You won’t pay for these extras at this point, but you will enter your payment information so we’re ready for step 3.

3. Approximately a month later (mid September) we’ll charge you for step 2, and will begin shipping the core game to backers who chose to receive the game before the add-ons.

4. In March 2018 we will begin shipping the add-ons, stretch goals and remaining copies of the core game.

GHOST CRAB

We will be giving free Ghost Crabs to all backers up to and including backer number 1710. You can find you backer number by going to your Kickstarter profile page, clicking on “Backed Projects”, clicking on this project in the “Projects I backed” list then scrolling to the bottom of the pop-up. The free Ghost Crabs won't show up in the backer survey, but we'll make sure you get one if you're supposed to get one!

If you click on the new “Want In? Click Me!” button on our main Kickstarter page, it’ll take you the page offering an option to preorder the game and add-ons. This is for latecomers who missed the campaign only, so if you backed during the campaign you shouldn’t use this page. Note that latecomers will not be offered stretch goals or add-on bundles.

Well, it looks like we severely underestimated the global appeal of rainbow-pooping unicorns! You sailed through that target way, way quicker than we expected. So congratulations - Sir Sparklehorn Rainbowtrots III now officially joins the ranks of the Legendary Beasts, and we can’t wait to get him into the game and into your hands.

So what happens now? Well, truth be told Sir Sparklehorn was our big stretch goal crescendo, our swan song, our fat lady yodelling as the curtain comes down on the campaign. But you lovable plan-wreckers went and blitzed through it all in record time (yay) which sadly means we’re all out of new shiny things to dangle in front of your noses (boo).

We know, we know, you want more stuff! We want to make more stuff! But in truth this is a *really* dangerous area for Kickstarter creators. Over promising is one of the main traps creators fall into, frequently leading to projects running late, under delivering or flat out going broke. Time, energy, and money are all finite resources, and we’ve already committed every second, atom and cent our tiny team can muster to create the heaped smorgasbord of awesome things you’ll be getting:

Now we've funded (thanks again!!) it's time to talk about stretch goals. For those of you that are new to this crowdfunding rodeo, stretch goals are upgrades and extras that are automatically added to all eligible pledge levels for FREE when we hit incremental funding thresholds. Yep, you read that right. We promise to add more, new, cool stuff to your rewards for FREE the more money we raise. All you need to do is keep telling your friends to back Beasts of Balance so we get more backers and unlock more cool stuff :-)

We hope you don’t mind, but we thought it would be nice to extend the offer a little while longer so that more of our lovely backers can get in on the action. We’re going to put the offer back up for 24 hours longer, to include everyone who backs us before 5pm AEST (Australia)/ 8am BST (UK)/ 3am EST (North America)/ 12am PST (North America) on Thurs 13th July. After that time there will be no more free Ghost Crabs, but we’ll be making it available to buy as an add-on through Backerkit once the campaign has ended (price TBC).  Crabs for everyone!

What a week!

Hello all you lovely people,

We can't believe how fast the last 4 days have gone. Funded in 6 hours, first 2 stretch goals unlocked not long after! We're not just blown away but also incredibly humbled by the amazing response you've given us. Before we head out for Friday night shenanigans and into the weekend we wanted to update you all on a few things, so read on.

Lost Hybrids & Battle Card Unlocked! 

Whoa, that was fast. Our first two stretch goals are now unlocked paving the way for some awesome prehistoric hybrids and the brand new physical Battle Card Theory of Devolution. BTW we're always open to creative suggestions for new beast names (in any language!) so don't be shy sending us in your prehistoric hybrid name ideas! Next up is The Ladder of Creation; a super-cool achievement and challenge feature that will test your stacking skills and game strategy to its limits. We know achievements are something that our existing players really want to see added, so we want YOUR suggestions and ideas for cool achievements, rewards and challenges. We put a few Battles achievements on the stretch goal graphic, but here are a few more ideas of ours for co-op: 

• Turbo Twenty (Build a tower with over 20 artefacts in under 5 minutes) 
• Terrible Tower (Build a complete tower with a score under 100) 
• Master Mason (Build a complete tower with a score over 1000) 
• Jurassic Lark (Create a world populated only with prehistoric sky beasts)

Only $35K to go before ???? 

Having dropped a few subtle-ish hints on what's coming after you've unlocked the Ladder of Creation, we've had some very interesting suggestions. Consensus seems to be it might be a physical piece, maybe a beast, maybe a bunch of petunias, possibly a rhino, or a giraffe, or a starwhal (which we think sounds like a really cool hybrid), or an orca, or a plush jellyfish...none of which we can either confirm or deny. But...keep spreading the word, sharing the love and ALL WILL BE REVEALED. 

Kickstarter Live

Thanks to everyone who watched our Live Streams this week - Alex F live from Brooklyn and George, Ana and Lyall live from Board Game Club in London. First off apologies for the technical issues that hit both. The good news is we got both working eventually and are pretty confident we know what we need to do next time to avoid the same issues. Look out for our Kickstarter Live plans next week, but we'll be kicking off on Tuesday (6pm BST/ 1pm EST/ 10am PST) with Tim doing a 30 min livestream on prototyping, explaining how he designs our artefacts to be so 'interesting' to stack. It's the perfect forum to ask him why he made Magmaaargh's belly so big, or why Angler Fish has that bendy bit over his maw, or what beasts he's sad never made the cut... 

Add-ons 

We've had a lot of questions about whether we'll be making some of the existing pieces and the Ghost Crab (for those that missed the free offer) available to buy after the campaign finishes. The answer is yes! You'll be able to buy Ghost Crab, Omnibeast, Lalnalion, The Playmat and the DIY Artefacts Kit (which let's you create your own Artefacts out of everyday or extraordinary objects) through our pledge manager once the Kickstarter campaign is finished. No need to add any funds onto your pledge, but you will be given the opportunity to add these items onto your order when it's time for you to confirm your details and pay for your shipping.
